776BC co-founder Cameron McKenzie-McHarg saw it first through a screen - the 1988 Olympics.
Not knowing yet what it would take. Only that it meant something.
Years later, that spark became a pursuit.
Through Scotch College.
Through a detour into professional football with the Western Bulldogs.
Through the grind of the Australian Men’s 8+.
And then it broke.
Athens, 2004. Missed.
Not by chance. By standard.
“That was a real test of character.”
So he stepped away. Not to quit - but to get honest.
Because greatness doesn’t come from pretending you’re ready. It comes from facing where you’re not.
He came back different. Clearer. Hungrier. Willing to do what most won’t.
He learned that racing isn’t just a moment. It’s a habit.
“You can simulate racing… give your body exposure to what racing speed feels like.”
Because when the pressure hits, you don’t rise to the occasion - you fall to your preparation.
Beijing. The final. 750 metres in - they’re ahead. 100 metres to go - it’s slipping.
Most would hold back. Protect the result. He chose something else.
“I’d prefer us to be brave.”
Because empty is better than wondering. Because courage leaves no doubt.
Silver. Earned the hard way. In the countless sessions leading to Beijing, he saw something else. The best athletes in the world - wearing gear that hadn’t kept up.
“They weren’t performance products.”
So he built what didn’t exist. From the inside out.
776BC. Not just for where the sport was - but for where it’s going.
